Iron T Vanadium Project
Apella Resources’ IRON-T Vanadium Project is located in central Quebec, Canada just west of the mining centre of Matagami. The Iron-T covers part of the Bell River Complex which is a large layered Archean intrusion . Still at an early stage of development, the Iron-T was discovered in 1997 by Noranda Inc., and their work confirmed the presence of Vanadium, Titanium and Iron mineralization over a distance of more than 20 kilometres. Geological resources of up to 200 million tonnes have been estimated at the site. Vanadium, Titanium and Iron values at the Iron-T have proven very comparable to that of the nearby Lac Dore Deposit. With Vanadium in high demand for use in high-strength, low-alloy steels (HSLA), as well as increased demand for production of Vanadium Redox Batteries, Apella Resources is aiming for near term production at the Iron-T.
Iron –T Project Milestones
- 1979 -Sociétéde Développement de la Baie-James initiated an exploration program. Hole L-1-82-1 was boredin 1982 and successfully identified vanadiferous mineralization over significant widths on the property. Assayresults returned 0.34% V2O5, 6.74% TiO2 and 25.19% Fe (total) over 56.39 m (estimated true width39.87m).
- 1997-1998, Noranda Exploration Inc. carried out exploration under the supervision of a well recognizedvanadium expert, Dr. Mehmet Taner
- Three grab samples collected from Trench A during the exploration program in 1997 returned values between0.52 and 0.59% V2O5.
- A ground magnetic survey conducted in 2007 indicated that previous drilling and trenching were conductedwithin an area characterized by strong magnetic anomalies trending WNW and ESE extending over 2 km and150 to 225 m wide.
- In August 2008 Apella conducted a channel sampling program to validate previous assays results obtained onthe Trench A excavated by Noranda in 1997.
- Apella’s total sampling length was 25 m and the sampling length fixed at 1.0 m. The weighted average of the three channels is 0.49% V2O5, 8.09% TiO2 and 33.20% Fe
